Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has appointed His Grace Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith a Cardinal.

His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith becomes the 2nd Cardinal in Sri Lanka. His Eminence Thomas Benjamin Cardinal Cooray was appointed on 22nd February 1965 by Holy Father Pope Paul VI.
