The New Year Festival was held to celebrate the Sinhala Tamil New Year with the participation of hundreds of parishioners consisting of children and their parents. The Parish Priests lit the traditional oil lamp to symbolize the start of the event and the head prefect said the starting prayer. Many traditional activities were organized, such as "Kanamutti Bidima", "Aliyata asa thabima", "Kotta pora", "Badaka devima", "Gama haraha devima" to make the event enjoyable to everyone.

The heat of the day was the tug war between Fathers and Sons (Won by Fathers), Mothers and Girls (Won by Mothers), Mothers and Fathers (Draw), Girls and Boys (Void) where parishioners enjoyed a lot, and at the end during the Girls and Boys tug war the rope broke sending both girls and boys flying on both sides. At the end of the event the well known "Mercy Achchi" took the Microphone can sang a song for all.
