The annual beach mass and sea blessing tradition of the St. Francis Xavier's Church, Angulana was held. Holy Mass was celebrated by the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Shamira Cooray. Soon after mass the people of the area mostly Buddhist's with the support of the local fisherman took the Blessed statue of St. Francis Xavier to sea and blessed the fishing locations in their hereditary truthful belief that the statue always gives them better prospects and protects them at sea.

A special prayer was observed during mass giving thanks to the St. Francis Xavier who 30 years ago protected every single devotee on board without any harm when the small paddle boat (Oruwa) carrying them took on water and sank off the coast of Angulana.
